ISLAND MAN FAIL!

One more thing to post, we did a story sequence for... um, story class. :P This was not made up by me, we were all given the same story, and we each go about it our own way. I dunno how well done mine is, but I at least put a lot of though into the narrative... like Maury wants us to!

Character Animations... totally worth the hours of Madness!

Midterm Projects are being completed, and it couldn't be any more relieving! Especially that the projects being due are the kind of projects we come to animation to do!

Here are the last couple things to be done before the break, the first being a character rotation, expression, and lip sync to the word "Meow." :P I did Hernán Cortés, a minor, but FUCKING AWESOME character from Road to El Dorado by Dreamworks (great movie, see it if you haven't).



*For you history buffs out there, in the movie and real life, Cortés was the leader of the Spanish army in the conquest of the Aztec Empire during the 1500s, which would lead to the eventual establishment of Mexico... 'cause I like facts! :P

Now we know how to draw a great character, have them act, and colour them into scenes... WHOOOOOOOOOOOT!!! :D

This is good for later, but for now: reading week = much needed sleep.

The hat has been passed.

So the second of several finals is finished. Character sequence! This was fun, but very tedious... training for the business we're in I guess! :P

Not much else to say, obviously a nod to the Indiana Jones series... have ya seen it? If not... well, get on that shit son!





Almost midterm!... That was fast! :S

In a painting room not so far away...

So a lot of work is being assigned right now, but it somehow doesn't feel like much since it's all due week 7 (the week before the break). Only one project is done so far, and another will be done next week, the rest will be on mid-term week... ugh!

So for now, I don't have much to put up. Here is a painting of a sci-fi spacescape, which was actully a really fun project!



It had to have a transition from day and night, and look like it was from a far off planet.

I'll admit Star Wars was partially inspiration for this, but also I took elements from the first scene in Titan A.E. where the earth was destroyed (awesome scene!).

Regardless, I think I'm becoming a better painter! Whooohooo! :D

Enter the Second Semester!!!

Well we're back from winter break, and this semester is so far starting off great! The project line up seems much more interesting. No more beginner crap! Bahaha! However, we're still in the development stages of most of our projects right now, so there's not to much to put up here now.

The only thing we've finished so far is the Pink Panther walk. Personally, I'm really happy about how this turned out! I'm looking at going into character animation specifically, so this was a nice way to show what I could do. This however turned out even better than I expected! But enough about me praising myself! :P Here is the stationary Walk Cycle version followed by the Panned version (which is what we handed in).

For our digital class we're going to be adding a background and colouring this! :D It'll be epic fun!

That's all there really is for now. :/ Feels like the first update of the semester should be much more epic... well I do have this character design sheet I'm using for a character sequence. I'll post it in a few weeks when the final is done, but here is the character I designed for it.


Pretty much a nod to Indiana Jones (obviously), but I don't draw anthropomorphic characters much (for those of you who don't know, it baically means an animal that acts human) so it's a good change of pace for me.

This be my final artwork post of first semester. It's been fun!

These paintings were done with a pre-thought colour selection. I think they could have been better. What I don't like is how the second one turned out. It's as bright as I wanted it to be, but I think I obscured the city part a bit too much... which sucks 'cause I spent quite a bit of time detailing the buildings only to block in the trees over almost all of the skyline, in which I was like "Oh fuck... I ruined it!"

Also, the colours don't vary as much as I would have liked. Which is not as much my fault as it was my subject matter. It couldn't be helped much without destroying the scene. Still, it would be better if the moods we were supposed to do were felt right away.

Oh well, painting wise they turned out kinda fine, so at least I'm learning something.





Also, some of you might have noticed that there is no layout design work up here... that's no accident I'll tell you 'cause my layouts aren't great.

But we did have this long 20 objects project to do over the entire semester for layout (we were assigned it the first week, but I did it the last! Haha!) We were to draw 20 props (that's objects that could be animated in a film) using perspective and techniques we were taught. Some we're half-assed but others turned out pretty good. So here are some of the "good" props I did for layout.









I just realized that I don't have any personal artwork up on here. :X

Hopefully over the break, I'll do some work on my own. So I'll post it when I do.

Here are the final vids for this semester.

First up is my digital animatic, and I must say this project was FUCKING AWESOME! It was fun, and allowed us to be genually creative.

It is based on a storyboarding excercise we did for the opening of Oliver Twist and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back earlier in the semester. We had to recreate the scenes digitally and process a moving animatic with the animation technology we've been taught.

Being the dork I am, I chose Star Wars... but made some very tasteful results!

I really half-assed this one, due to time constraints. But it turned out well enough. With a little more time, it could have been better... maybe.

Crazy Bonez

Last bone drawings of the semester... tho' unfortunately not forever. Haha!... my wrists hurt. :X

Anyway, full pronated and supinated arm and shoulder bones, and full anterior and lateral leg and hip bones.




Funny how we artists will sacrifice the comfort of our own bones and joints on order to make pretty pictures of bones and joints. Equivalent exchange, bitch!

Animal petting zoos, and dirty Graphite fingers

We took a trip to the Royal Winter Fair last Friday to draw animals!

I must say, we artists were quite the spectacle for the little children. Oddly enough, we where sometimes the center of attention rather than the cute little animals... kinda cool, if ya ask me! :)

Anyways, here is what I got out of the day... at least the good ones.







Frankly, I think they're all crap-tacular... but then again, I think the same for everything I do.
